In Anticipation of Winter ✜ architecture
2022
This project positions ice as a central design provocation; its materiality reimagining the way we live. A single oblique cut through the existing building mediates a series of interactions: Ice and snow are collected for irrigation. Snow is stored for Summer cooling. Accumulated snow and ice insulate the roof in the Winter. The accumulation and depletion of ice motivate visual and spatial shifts in the architecture. Our proposal also addresses the strain on housing stock in Cambridge caused by the biotech industry.
