Salt, Water, Acid ✴ landscape
2022
This proposal grapples with the working landscape of a dying industry: cranberries. The town of Wareham is particularly vulnerable to the threat of flooding, both from sea level rise and heavy rainfall. The cranberry bog is reimagined as low-lying land for stormwater retention. Excavated soil and plantings are transported to a nearby working shoreline. This second site becomes an experiment for eelgrass restoration and coastal resiliency. The ephemeral and experiential qualities of wettness construct a new working landscape which transitions from acidic soils and plants, to a new multi-dimensional saline working environment.
