Site, Material, Cut ✜ architecture
2021
This is an office complex. The project challenges the inherent qualities of abstraction and isolation that are promoted by the form and organization of the high-occupancy high-rise tower. What better office cultures could we promote with adaptive reuse? This project is driven by history, site specificity and heritage. Site research revealed that this was the site of the last remaining buildings in the former West End neighborhood. In response, the design is driven by a cut in space that re-stitches existing fragments together into a new social platform. The historic buildings are not precioud, they are modified to generate new spatial relationships. It relates old layers to new layers. It is open to the future.
